Bitch and The Exciting Conclusion, or B+TEC (say 'Be Tech') for short, is a three piece band that combines electric violin, ukulele, bass, drums and keyboards. Fronted by Bitch, (who you may know from her former band Bitch and Animal Righteous Babe Records, or John Cameron Mitchell's movie "Shortbus") and backed by Gabriel K (Stationary Set) and Lee Free (Circus Amok, Inner Princess).
They have just released a 5 song self-titled EP, "B+TEC"-their first recording together-which they made in their hometown of New York City-and will be released on Bitch's own Short Story Records.
B+TEC's shows combine a harsh, stripped down art-rock sound with tender ukulele ballads and the personalities of larger-than-life Bitch, with Gabriel's minimalist bass lines and vocal harmonies and the fiery drumming of Lee Free, who mixes electronic sounds into an acoustic drum set. On stage, the three are obviously related, but come at the world from such different places, that the music is a cacophony that bounces between Led Zeppelin influences to Joni Mitchell or Debbie Harry.
Bitch is renowned as a compelling live performer. She doesn't just command the stage, she owns it. Her most recent release, "Make This/Break This" came out on Kill Rock Stars and is her first solo studio album since leaving her former band. It's performance-arty, heartfelt and pushy.
Bitch has also been producing "Boulder," a record of her folk-hero Ferron. The two have been a seemingly odd billing, but once one sees them on stage their connection is obvious. She has made the entire record on her laptop, and camped out in the woods in her RV outside of Ferron's house to make it. It features performances by Ani DiFranco, The Indigo Girls, JD Samson (Le Tigre), Samantha Parton (Be Good Tanyas) and others.
